Litter Louts
Wow! Isn’t it incredible how the big cheeses at the large profiteer like Tesco are telling the government that it should introduce greener legislation, particularly to prevent waste?
Why do some supermarkets need legislation to restrict their sometimes ridiculous excessive packaging? Why does it need government legislation for Tesco to be less generous with their plastic carrier bags? Why might it take government legislation for one of the world’s richest companies to take the socially responsible step and prevent the massive littering of our neighbourhood with their shopping trolleys?
It’s amazing how people with £1m salaries can’t think through he simplest of issues and perhaps even set a good example!!!

Why does it need legislation? because all too often these days it is only this legal, often fine imposing, kick up the butt that makes highly paid execs wake up and smell the coffee!!
Basingstoke & Deane should indeed make full use of the available 'trolley collection' legislation and off-set this against the disgusting amount of 2m pounds this borough uses to keep its streets 'clean'.
The local PC is also on a right track by suggesting Tesco are called (01256 727400)when these trollies are spotted - I'm not sure its feasible to expect Tesco to 'find' them all.
With regards to carrier bags - They do seem to be pushing more the fact that you can take your carriers to the store or give to your delivery man to be recycled - I notice at least the small Lychpit Tesco are in the habit of asking if people need a bag rather than just handing one out for example with a packet of crisps.
We shoppers however need to get back in the habit of using shopping bags instead of carriers.
(having provided the 'service' of trollies perhaps they should re-think the 'bag service' policy and end their supply )
The small bags that end up littering our trees are no doubt a problem - there are now biodegradable plastics available that breakdown quite swiftly and perhaps, as tesco seem to refuse to go down a paper route, should be urged to use this plastic for their veg bags !!
